Graveney Primary School

‘Learning and Achieving Together’

Letter to parents and carers - 24th March 2020

24th March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last week was the most emotional one any teacher has ever experienced.  Thank you to all the parents who have supported us over the past few days (which feel like an eternity), with your kind words and deeds.

This is a new dawn for education.  Every year I spend many hours writing a school improvement plan with our Trustees and Staff, planning how we will make Graveney Primary a better for each and every one of your children.  We are now in need of a new plan…

Please know that we are trying our best in these very hard times to ensure that your child continues to get the education they deserve.  At this time, I firmly believe that your children are now in the safest place – at home with you.  Please hug them and share every moment you can with them.

Every member of staff here at school has committed to supporting our Key Workers, many of our staff are also supporting charities who are trying to help our communities (food parcels and prescriptions for the elderly).  Please understand that we are all working to help other and trying to support our own families.

Teachers can be contacted on their school email address, which are as follows:

Neil.murray@graveney.kent.sch.uk

Matthew.crick@graveney.kent.sch.uk

Tracey.Goodsell@graveney.kent.sch.uk

headteacher@graveney.kent.sch.uk

Please do not ask us to set extra work for your child.  There are so many other more important things for them to be doing at this time.  Our most important priority at this time should their emotional wellbeing – please share love.  Many of them will have questions about what is happening around the world, these are difficult conversations to have with your child.  If you would like some ideas to help explain this to them, please look at the following sites for some ideas.

  • Covibook – an interactive resource designed to support and reassure children aged 7 and under, designed to help children explain and draw the emotions that they might be experiencing during the pandemic: https://www.mindheart.co/descargables

Many thanks to all the parents who have given us feedback on the home learning so far.  This will be developed as our new school life evolves.

If you know of any parents who are not getting emails from the school, please ask them to contact me, so that I can correct their details.  This will be our main system for communication with you.  Please share this in your Whatsapp groups to help me include everyone.

Please don’t forget that your children are often better at communication online than we are as adults, keep them safe and remind them about online safety.

At this time, I am not always available in school, I will answer the phone when I am there… If you have any safeguarding concerns or need our help please contact me on my mobile number 07921 462937.  This is for emergencies only.

Take care and keep safe
