Bumblebees

Term 6 Wow Chart Towers, Tunnels and Turrets

Just before the holiday we went back to the woods to see the beautiful Bluebells!

Land Ahoy! One of the older children showed us his boat. We learnt all about the different mechanisms that are used to sail it.

Who lives here? We built homes for fairies and imps. We made sure that they were structurally sound and camouflaged.

Welcome to the Bumblebees page!  We will be posting photos of the children and their work so that you can see what they have been learning about in class.  We will also be posting ideas on how you can help your child at home.

The children still have access to Bug Club, Mathletics, Numbots and TT Rockstars!  TT Rockstars has been reset recently so that Year 1 only have the 2 times table and Year 2 have the 2, 5 and 10 times tables so the Bumblebees should be able to access the questions more easily now.

In class the children are regularly reading their reading books with us so you may have noticed that they get changed more often.  We aim to change the children's books every Monday and Friday but if they finish their book when reading with one of the adults in class we will often change their book on other days.  If you would like to read a book with your child again please pop a note in their Reading Record Book stating that you would like to read it again with them.  Remember it is also important to read other books as well so that the children experience a wide range of texts.

Other activities that we regularly do in class are practising cursive handwriting, adding the numbers 1 to 10 so that the children have quick recall of these facts and the times tables (2, 5 and 10 at the moment).  These would be great things to do with your child at home too!  Also remember that at the beginning of term we sent home some words for the children to learn to read and spell, as well as a 100-square so that they can practise counting and recognising numbers to 100.

Thank you

Key Skills

NumBots

We’re using this online resource to support your children’s maths education in Early Year, Key Stage 1 and early Key Stage 2. The creators of Times Tables Rock Stars have produced a platform for boosting addition and subtraction skills. NumBots is an online game by playing little and often your child will significantly improve recall, understanding of number bonds, addition and subtraction facts. These are critical foundations in maths so we are excited by the impact NumBots will have.

TTRockstars

Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice which children complete in a fun and engaging way online. Each week concentrates on a different times table, with a recommended consolidation week for rehearsing the tables that have recently been practised every third week or so.

Active Learn (Bug Club)

Our school has access to a reading programme called Bug Club.  We hope that you and your child will love these books and enjoy reading them at home. Bug Club is a finely-levelled reading scheme, which ensures that all children can find books at exactly the right level for them. What’s more, there are online versions for every printed title and a personalised website for each child.  We allocate books to your child according to their reading levels. These books will appear in the ‘My Stuff’ area of their personal homepages.

Mathletics

Mathletics brings classroom practice into the home. Aligned to our curriculum, Mathletics activities are relevant, they will reinforce lessons learned in school, and help your children gain mastery over maths topics or challenge themselves to develop greater understanding.

Readiwriter Spelling

We are using Readiwriter for spelling resources.  To use Readiwriter you need your Mathletics user name and password.  You can also switch between Mathletics and Readiwriter!   Don’t get confused and start counting the letters!!
