Values and Ethos
Graveney Primary School Vision
At Graveney Primary School, we believe every child deserves to feel known, valued and inspired to achieve their very best. We are a nurturing, ambitious and inclusive school where children feel safe, respected and confident to be themselves.
Our vision is to provide an engaging and enriching education that develops knowledge, skills and character, preparing children not only for the next stage of their learning but for life beyond the classroom. Through exceptional teaching, a love of reading and meaningful learning experiences, we encourage every child to become curious, resilient and independent learners who are ready to embrace the future with confidence.
Our curriculum is rooted in the values that matter most. We celebrate diversity, build strong relationships and create a genuine sense of community where everyone belongs. Learning extends beyond the classroom through outdoor experiences, creativity, physical activity and opportunities that nurture children's wellbeing and personal development.
Everything we do is underpinned by our core values:
- Respect – valuing ourselves, others and the world around us.
- Kindness – showing compassion, empathy and care in all that we do.
- Responsibility – taking ownership of our actions, our learning and our environment.
- Courage – embracing new challenges with confidence and determination.
- Honesty – acting with integrity, truthfulness and fairness.
- Resilience – persevering through challenges and learning from our experiences.
Alongside these values, we encourage every child to Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe, creating a positive culture where everyone can thrive.
Working in partnership with families and our wider community, we strive to inspire children to become compassionate, knowledgeable and responsible citizens who are equipped with the confidence, skills and values to make a positive difference in the world.
Together, we learn, explore and grow.

The Five British Values
At Graveney Primary School, we are committed to preparing children to become kind, respectful and responsible members of society. One of the ways we do this is by promoting the British Values, which are a set of principles that help children understand how to live positively alongside others in modern Britain.
These values are not taught as a separate subject but are woven throughout our curriculum, assemblies, daily routines and relationships.
Democracy
Democracy means that everyone's voice matters. We encourage children to share their ideas, listen to the opinions of others and understand that decisions can be made fairly through discussion and voting. Children experience democracy through activities such as School Council elections, class discussions and making choices about their learning.
The Rule of Law
Children learn why rules and laws are important in keeping everyone safe, happy and treated fairly. Our school expectations of Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe help children understand responsibility, fairness and the consequences of their actions.
Individual Liberty
We encourage children to make positive choices, express their ideas and develop confidence in who they are. They learn that with freedom comes responsibility and that everyone has the right to feel safe, valued and respected.
Mutual Respect
Respect is at the heart of everything we do. We teach children to value themselves, appreciate others and celebrate differences. Through our school values of Respect, Kindness, Honesty, Responsibility, Courage and Resilience, children learn how to build positive relationships and show consideration for those around them.
Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
We celebrate the rich diversity of our local, national and global communities. Through our curriculum, collective worship, celebrations and learning about different cultures and religions, children develop understanding, empathy and respect for people whose beliefs, traditions or backgrounds may be different from their own.
Living Our Values Every Day
British Values are closely linked to our own school vision and values. By encouraging children to Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe, and by nurturing qualities such as kindness, honesty and resilience, we help every child to become a confident, compassionate and responsible citizen.
Working together with our families and wider community, we aim to ensure that every child leaves Graveney Primary School with the knowledge, character and understanding to make a positive contribution to modern Britain and the wider world.
